"Curse of the Starving Class." By Sam Shepard, Sept. 6-Oct. 18, 2008
Hilarious and profound, frighteningly true and delightfully surreal, this dark satire follows the malnourished and eccentric Tates family in their fierce attempt to hold on to what is theirs. As their delusions of a better life fall apart around them, the Tates careen down an inevitable path as they search for freedom, security and their sliver of Western American pie. more
"Speech and Debate." By Stephen Karam, Nov. 1-Dec. 13, 2008
Truth or dare: Three high-school misfits find each other linked within the town sex scandal and decide that the only way to get to the truth is to form their school's first speech and debate team. Secrets become currency, blogs are belted and 'bathing-suit areas' exposed in this uproarious, clever, and heartbreakingly familiar comedy set to the musical stylings of a Casio keyboard. more
"Rabbit Hole." By David Lindsay-Abaire, Jan. 10-Feb. 14, 2009
This Pulitzer-winning story of loss, heartbreak and forgiveness unravels as a couple struggles through the motions of daily tasks, attempting to move on after the accidental death of their son. Somewhat lost, but always acutely aware of what is missing, they must find a common ground in order to overcome their grief. A graceful drama of what comes after tragedy; this lyrical and surprisingly humorous story gives way to a sad, sweet release about the nuances of the human heart and the capacity to overcome loss. more
"Eurydice." By Sarah Ruhl, March 7-April 18, 2009
A fantastical twist on the Orpheus myth, "Eurydice" follows the story of his wife, lost on their wedding night. After falling to her death, Eurydice finds herself in the Underworld; but the Dead speak another language, and with the help of her father, she must re-learn her human tongue to remember the world and husband she left behind. A visually stunning, whimsical story, our characters move through a world of talking stones, raining elevators, letters sent through the earth via worms and rooms made of string. Called 'devastatingly lovely' by the New York Times, Ruhl's sexy and imaginative wonderland is drop-dead captivating. The writer won the MacArthur Foundation 'Genius' grant for this work. more
"26 Miles." By Quiara Alegría Hudes, May 9-June 20, 2009
After an eight-year estrangement, a vivacious Cuban mother reunites with her lonely half-Jewish teenage daughter on an impromptu cross-country road trip. Starting in Philadelphia and ending in Yellowstone's Hayden Valley, their hilarious and charming journey provokes them to finally voice the tension of different cultural identities and resentments harbored about their ailed relationship. As they unpack their individual baggage about being 'outsiders,' they discover a commonality they never knew they had. more
