About the Acoma Center

Built in 1895, Curious’ home at 1080 Acoma originally served as the Swedish Evangelical Free Church, later becoming The Upper Room United Pentecostal Church.

In 1995, a private partnership was formed to purchase and renovate this 10,000 square foot building, naming it “The Acoma Center”.

The facility has an auditorium divided between an orchestra level and an opera-style balcony, outfitted with 200+ red velvet seats salvaged from the BMH synagogue. In addition to the auditorium and 1,000 square foot stage, the building houses a box office/lobby area with exhibit space, two dressing rooms, a scenery and prop workshop, a “green room’, a full commercial kitchen, and a gallery and reception room called “Mamie’s” -- named for Mamie Eisenhower, who is said to have attended church in the building when it was the Swedish Evangelical Free Church.
