Lamaria Aminah is a writer and activist. Black. is her first play and it was
developed in the Curious New Voices summer intensive in 2015. Born in Portland,
OR, Lamaira has lived all over the country. She came to Denver via Washington DC
and finished her last two years of high school at East. Lamaira overcomes the daily
challenges of living with epilepsy and is a softball player and talented musician
playing flute, piano and saxophone. She recently participated in a medical mission
trip to Ghana and spent this spring backpacking in Europe, returning just in
time to be part of Curious New Voices for the second year. Lamaira believes she’s found a
real home and purpose in writing for theatre and film. She is currently working on
two more plays and adapting Black. into a short film.
