Beginning July 5, young artists in high school and college have been spending their time immersed in the world of playwriting. Working alongside nationally recognized master playwrights and mentors, they are developing their own unique voice and collaborating with professionals to stage a festival of innovative new works.

Each morning, students begin with a physical warm-up, followed by ensemble-generated poetry and a balance of guided exercises and self-directed writing time allowing playwrights to discover the play that is emerging. The rest of the day is spent writing and workshopping their pieces with mentors Dee Covington and Josh Hartwell before show production in our Curious New Voices’ New Play Festival.

This year, the New Play Festival will be taking place at Curious July 22 – 23 with shows starting at 7 PM MST. The cost of admission to this festival is free, with an encouraged donation of $10 – $20 to help fund the Curious New Voices program. This festival will include several short plays written by this year’s CNV students.

The theme for this year’s festival is A House Divided and the short plays will cover a variety of topics. You do not want to miss this showcase of provocative art!
